Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 226!
We hope you find scouting to be an enjoyable and unique experience for both you and your new Cub Scout.
We hope you find scouting to be an enjoyable and unique experience for both you and your new Cub Scout.
What we do
Cub Scouting means "doing". Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the scouts doing things. Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting. Many of these activities happen right in the den and pack.
The Den
When a scout starts in Cub Scouts, they are assigned to a Den. A den is made up of 8-10 Scouts of the same school grade. These scouts will stay with the same den throughout their Cub Scout experience. The boys will meet with their Den two to three times a month. The Den meetings are where most the activities occur and where boys will earn badges, belt loops, pins and more! Each Den has at least one adult leader who, with the assistance of the other parents in the Den, organize the activities.
The Pack
The pack consists of all the Dens combine. Each month, the entire Pack meets to acknowledge the achievements scouts have accomplished in the past month. In addition, the scouts will have the opportunity to participate in an activity as a pack. These activities may be games, STEM activities or community service. The goal for these meetings is to provide fun and learning atmosphere where scouts can be rewarded for their efforts.
What Happens at a Den Meeting?
Den meetings are the core of cub scouting. This is where scouts meet to work on requirements specific to their grade-level rank. As part of the meetings, Den leaders organize games and other activities to have a blend of learning and fun. Dens will also participate in "Go-See-It" field trips where the scouts get a more hands on experience. Dens have gone to lots of fun places such as Fire Stations, Police Stations and Radio Stations!

Key Scouting Events
Throughout the year the Pack organizes a variety of activities which add to the overall scouting program. The following are a sample of key events we participate and plan:

Next Steps - Joining an Den and Den Leaders
When a child joins scouts, he or she will be placed in a Den with other scouts in their grade. A den typically includes 8-10 scouts who meet 2-3 times a month.
As scouts join we also recruit parents to volunteer to be Den Leaders. This is a very important position and commitment, but it comes with many rewards such as determining the activities your child and their Den will participate in, rewarding their accomplishments and leading them onward into Scouts BSA.
When new leaders are determined, we schedule a meeting to discuss the operation of the Den and give advice on projects, activities and field trips. The leader will need to complete Position specific training (Den Leader) and the online Youth Protection Training. Existing leaders are always available for help and advice!

Fundraising
The pack is funded entirely through one major annual fundraising effort: Our Popcorn sale. The funds from the sale of popcorn allows the pack to operate for the year. Families are required to participate in our fundraising and sell a minimum amount of items, or the family may elect to "buy out". This has been a successful way to raise funds for the pack and we encourage all scouts and their families to help as much as they can to earn operating funds for the pack. The Cost of Scouting There is an initial registration fee of $25 along with prorated National and Michigan Scouting fees. This is paid with the application to Michigan Scouting and will also count towards dues for the year. The annual Pack dues as of 2022-2023 School year are $200, but this cost can be lessened by Popcorn sales. There are minimal event fees through out the year and a one time cost of a uniform of approximately $40. |
Volunteering with Pack 226
Pack 226 wouldn't exist without our Volunteers. There are several opportunities throughout the year to assist with activities, events and the Pack as a whole. Please consider volunteering. The more volunteers we have the more fun activities we can do! If you are interested in learning more about any of the open positions listed on the Pack Leadership page, or other volunteer opportunities, contact anyone on the Committee to discuss.
